The City of Taunton is in Bristol County, Massachusetts, approximately 40 miles south of Boston. Founded in 1637 by members of the Plymouth Colony, Taunton is one of the oldest towns in the United States. Also known as the Silver City, Taunton was a historic center of the silver industry beginning in the 19th century.
The Challenge
Taunton had difficulties with its legacy technology. Its internal database for permitting and billing stored historical data but didn’t allow citizens to submit applications and payments online. Users couldn’t track permit statuses, and larger projects required visiting multiple buildings for signatures.
