Non-profit organizations often struggle with manual processes and no real-time visibility into critical metrics and performance.
These challenges come from relying on small business accounting applications and spreadsheets.
Some businesses never need to upgrade their systems, but non-profits have accounting, tracking, and reporting needs that require specialized functionality. To focus on their missions and fuel growth, they need the right technology.
Vision33 held a panel discussion to explore two of our non-profit customers’ frustrations with their legacy software, Sage 50 and Sage 300, and why they chose cloud financials.
Kelly Davey, Financial Analyst at Brentwood Recovery Home, and Andrew Simmons, Director of Finance at Qalipu First Nation, joined moderators Dave Rumer from Sage and Derek Sullivan from Vision33.
Located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Brentwood Recovery Home provides lifelong, compassionate, and evidence-informed treatment for people seeking recovery from alcohol and drug misuse.
When Kelly joined Brentwood in 2021, her first significant project was finding accounting software to replace Sage 50, an on-premises solution. The company wanted to modernize processes and eliminate paper and workarounds.
“Reporting was one of our biggest challenges,” Kelly says. “We couldn’t slice and dice by different programs. We were taking canned reports from Sage 50 and manipulating them in Excel, which was very time-consuming.”
Qalipu First Nation is a vibrant Mi’kmaq First Nation established in 2011 as an Indigenous Band under the Indian Act. With a large membership spread across 67 traditional Newfoundland Mi’kmaq communities and abroad, Qalipu is one of Canada’s largest First Nation groups.
Qalipu First Nation used Sage 300 for eight years. “Our growth, high volume of transactions, number of different funding sources, and variety of programs led us to look for more automation and reporting capabilities,” Andrew explains. “We wanted to drill down into expenses, perform additional analysis, and improve our financial division’s overall efficiency.”
