Blog > Solving Local Government’s Biggest Permitting Challenges
Many government agencies in North America share common frustrations with their permitting software: It takes hours to create a single report, staff switch between systems to manage everyday workflows, and technical resources are required to make basic system updates.
Vision33, a trusted partner in government transformation for over 30 years, welcomed Clariti, the only permitting software vendor solely focused on community development, for a special online event to address these challenges.
Moderator Allison Locke, general manager of eGovernment at Vision33, asked Jeremy Bosch, vice president of marketing at Clariti, about today’s top permitting system challenges and how agencies can overcome them.

“Permitting is something governments need to do in most jurisdictions to ensure safe construction and adherence to local and national building codes,” Jeremy explains. “So almost every government has permitting software, but most organizations we talk to have something that was built on-premises and then moved to the cloud.”
Most governments recognize the need to adapt, change, or update their systems—but that’s difficult to do with legacy software that isn’t in a full multi-tenant SaaS platform. Agencies that want to make even simple changes within legacy systems often rely heavily on technical support.
Additionally, because of some systems’ data structure, staff have difficulty accessing essential data, such as the permitting history within a land parcel. Many contextual details must be verified by plan checkers and building department staff for approvals, and time is often wasted searching for critical information.
Complicating matters, many agencies use multiple disconnected systems that force duplicate data entry and cause mistakes.
“The challenge is, if you have an ERP solution, a permitting system, and four systems for planning and plan checking, consolidating all that data in one spot can be very difficult,” Jeremy says. “And if you don’t do that, you lose the impact technology can make.”
Clariti Enterprise is the most configurable permitting software in its category. It empowers users to make adjustments with just a few clicks: build a report, change a page layout, create a new permit type, and more—all without technical resources.
“Building reports is easy,” Jeremy says. “And that’s huge, because especially with the pressure on affordable housing in many cities, there’s a lot of reporting that many building departments need to provide, whether it’s to a council or a state or provincial body that’s mandated a certain amount of building within their jurisdiction.”
With Clariti Enterprise, accessing critical data is easy. Users track the information they need in any format they choose, resulting in full data visibility and faster, more confident decisions.
And because Clariti Enterprise is built on the Salesforce platform with flexible APIs, agencies can seamlessly integrate with other critical applications for a single source of truth.
